TSM are through to the IEM San Jose grand final after seeing off G2 by a 2-1 scoreline (5-16 on de_cache, 16-7 on de_overpass and 16-6 on de_mirage).

The opening semi-final brought together two teams who had faced each other during the group stage of DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca. Back then, TSM passed the test with flying colors, so the question heading into the series was whether G2 had learned lessons from that match, now with a slightly different roster.

The opening map, de_cache, began with G2 winning the pistol round and the following two anti-eco rounds to start off the game with a 3-0 lead. Despite losing the first gun round, G2 continued their impressive run, with the scoreline blooming to a 5-1 advantage for them. A force buy from TSM in the seventh round paid dividends and powered the team to reduce the gap to two rounds, but G2 rallied back and set the score at 8-3.

The following round went TSM's way, but the Danish team were unable to build on that win as Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad pulled off an insane 1vs3 clutch, with G2 taking a 10-5 lead into the break. The second half was a complete blowout as G2 did not give their opponents any room to operate, winning six rounds in a row to complete a 16-5 victory.

G2 won the first map of the series

Map number two, de_overpass, began with G2 taking bragging rights first following a successful pistol round, but then they were caught off-guard by TSM's force buy, with René "cajunb" Borg getting three kills to his name. The Danish team won five of the following six rounds to bring the scoreline to 6-2, when a quad kill from Philip "aizy" Aistrup put G2 right back in the game. However, the Danish team did not take their foot off the gas and closed out the half with a commanding 11-4 lead.

Things went from bad to worse for G2, who were slaughtered in the pistol round, but they replied right after on the back of a fierce force buy. The former Kinguin side picked up a couple more rounds to cut the gap to 7-12 before TSM won four straight rounds to tie up the series 1-1.

It all came down to de_mirage, where TSM got off to a great start, winning the first three rounds after a bloodbath in the A site in the pistol round. Once they bought up, G2 looked much livelier as they equalised the score at 3-3, but TSM embarked on a fantastic run that propelled them into a 9-3 lead, forcing G2 to call a tactical pause. The pep talk paid off as it allowed the team to work out their problems and win the final two rounds to make it 5-10.

TSM advance to the grand final

TSM bust out of the gates with an impressive A push in the pistol round that G2 could not do anything against. Even when they bought up, G2 were outclassed, with TSM giving up just one round before sealing an impressive 16-6 success.
